Peel asparagus and cut away the lower third of the stalk. Place 6 pieces on two layers of aluminum foil. Sprinkle over some salt and sugar, then melted butter and orange juice, orange rind, chopped herbs (optional). Wrap the asparagus well in the foil.
Place the wrapped packages next to each other on a baking tray and put on the lowest shelf of the oven heated at 220 °C. Bake for 40 minutes. Take the asparagus out of the oven, leave in the foil for a few minutes. Open the packages at the table in order to enjoy the fine caramel aroma.
